Wow. What can we say about
the weather we experienced in early June here in Indiana? Our thoughts,
prayers and condolences go out to all the people who lost so many
belongings due to the extreme flooding and tornados throughout the
Midwest. I live in Columbus, which got hit pretty hard, and am so
grateful to report that our home sustained no damage. And none of
our associates at Wishful Thinking were directly affected.
After the floodwaters receded, I was shocked by how much damage
has occurred. Street after street, every house had enormous piles
of mud-caked possessions - furniture, toys, carpets, dry wall, computers,
appliances, etc. All dumped along the curb to hauled off to the
landfills. Papers, books and photographs were hung on laundry racks
and tables outside, drying out.
And I thought about all of you. Where are your craft rooms / studios
located? If you're like me, it's in a room in the basement. All
those photographs and scrapbooks you work so hard on; all those
little pieces of art and handmade cards you enjoy doing. And I hope
that none of you have lost any of your craft supplies and scrapbooks
to the floodwaters!
We've heard that some of you have. If
you haven't told us yet that your craft room and studio did sustain
water damage, please let us know.
Let us know what you lost. We won't be able to replace that beautiful
wedding scrapbook or that pile of baby pictures, but we may be able
to help in replacing or replenishing some of your craft supplies,
be it papers, inks, stamps, scrapbooks, stickers, etc.
As many of you are aware, every July we hold our annual Used Stamp
and Craft Sale. This year we'd like to do add one more twist - for
items not sold during the sale, the seller will have to option of
either taking their unsold items home with them or donating them
to flood victims.
We are also going to collect any items any of you would like to
donate, from now until the end of September. And we are going to
solicit our vendors to see if they would like to contribute any
products as well. We will combine this with the donations we received
at our Rubber Stamping Weekend Retreat this past June.
Later in the fall, we will put together packages for all of you
who have contacted us in July, August and September about your flood
damages. We will extend this invitation to all flood victims in
the state of Indiana that reside in counties that have been deemed
Federal Disaster Areas. You can contact us at 812-988-7009 or via
e-mail.
We are partnering with Scrap-a-holic in Columbus, IN, with this
project, so feel free to contact them as well, www.scrap-a-holic.net
or 866-340-9409.
I would also like to take this opportunity to refer you to a website
I found that offers tips on saving your photographs from flood damage:
http://www.popphoto.com; search
for "flood-damage". For those of you in the Bartholomew
/ Brown County area contact us if you need photo restoration; we
are looking for a local photographer who can help you!
Thank you in advance for your support to our fellow scrappers and
stampers! We know they will appreciate it!
